And I want to deny: “It can’t happen to you,
You’re immune, not to us, never now.
Not to people we care for,” I wish it were true!
“I bolted the doors so we’re safe anyhow.”
Take your vitamins, exercise, make yourself strong,
Take care when you’re crossing the street.
Get preventative checkups to help you live long,
And remember the right things to eat.
Swift Death, with a grin that the ancients well knew,
Strikes down like a bolt from above
No warning, no haven, there’s nothing to do,
That can safeguard the people you love.
No safety for you, or for me, or our friends
Every face hides its skull, and our lives all have ends.
