Words of Comfort and Cheer (On the Deathbed of Greer Gilman’s Mother)

Hope, assuagement, succor,
Solace, comfort, mirth,
A criss-crossed crust of bleeding words
That salt this bitter Earth.

Light, endurance, morning,
Time, existence, fate,
The words that keep outpouring
Communicating late.

For in the end what more are we
That all we’ve said and done?
The words and deeds that built our days
And made our dear sun run.

Assumption, roses, glory,
Remembrance, contact, story.
