after the Big Bang,
the photons had wanted,
still close, rushing out, known, wanted,
Wanted what they could see, be…
More than hydrogen!
More than helium!
More than stars and dust.
Aluminum! Oxygen! Gold! Lead! Salt! Ammonia!
And look, look, beyond delight,
carbon chemistry
that walks about and eats each other.
Might they have leant, bent, beaten odds?
So there was light, light, light, although no gods.
