This is the way it was in Germany
As changes came inexorably worse
By increments, and creeping like a curse
“God damn those fascists? Where’d I put my key?”
You said you wouldn’t, but it’s normal life
“What’s he done now? Oh no!” then laugh at memes.
They came for others. You’re still here, it seems.
Protest on weekends. Sigh, and kiss your wife.
But under all the running tick of fear
Exams, and jobs, and love, and spring, and friends
Temperatures rising, rumors of war, not here,
Not yet. But when? What happens if this bends?
And do frogs really boil? It isn’t clear.
And everything goes on until it ends.
