Mathematics suggest that the asteroid
Will not destroy the world so utterly
As the doom-sayers suggest, but will disrupt
Sufficient to demolish civilization
Eliminating all life but cockroaches
And little creeping mammals.
No use to pray to the Thunder-Father
Or the Egg-Layer, Mother of all.
The Far-Shooting Lord of Light
Has us in his sights,
The heavens are falling and only you
Could nudge it aside,
